The Reds boss felt his side had opportunities and enough of the ball to secure victory at the King Power Stadium but let themselves down by making poor choices
Jurgen Klopp needed "a few minutes to cool down" after watching Liverpool spurn the chance to take maximum points off Leicester City due to bad decision-making.
The Reds boss was frustrated following the 2-0 defeat on Tuesday night as he felt his side had the opportunities but not the application to win the game.
A Jamie Vardy double decided the encounter with his first - a dipping volley from distance and at an angle - a contender for goal of the season.
Klopp could not fault his side’s industry at the King Power Stadium, but was annoyed that they could not show more composure at crucial times.
"[Vardy] made the difference tonight. I think our plan was good, it was obviously good," he told reporters.
"We forced ourselves to play, we knew about their kind of defending; sometimes they had higher pressing and things like this. Then you can, and have to, play over the wings.
"We had time, we had the ball, we had opportunities in the box, but everybody could see we didn’t make the right decision often enough.
"The longer the game was, we didn’t get cooler and the decisions didn’t get better. That’s the problem. We had the ball in their box, we didn’t shoot and one second later, Vardy shot from 35 yards and the ball was in. That says most about the game
I don’t feel too good in this moment, because I know we lost and we have to accept it, absolutely no problem. But, I think, with a few things we would have done differently today, we could have won this game.
"If you can win a game, you should do it. We didn’t. So I need a few minutes to cool down."
The encounter against Leicester was the Liverpool's first in February, which will be another hectic month following on from the nine games across three competitions the club tackled in January.
When asked if Claudio Ranieri’s league leaders displayed the kind of intensity he admires, the German rejected the suggestion that his side played at a lower tempo, adding: "Maybe the reason is we had six games more in January.
"The intensity we played with, we had a lot of – we had a lot of good situations. Our problem today was not to run more or to run more intensively, our problem was when we had the ball in the right position we made the wrong decision. That’s all.
"They [Leicester] had 10 days off and we had three games, so if we could have played at the same intensity, absolutely even, like them then I think they would have done something wrong."
