Уэйн Руни произнес речь после установления рекорда. Wayne Rooney gives rousing motivational speech after breaking England's scoring record

An emotional Rooney walks down the tunnel after surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton's 45-year-old scoring record at Wembley

On the night when he broke Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time scoring record for England, few would have begrudged Wayne Rooney a warm, smug feeling of self-satisfaction.

Yet, the 29-year-old Manchester United striker, who netted his 50th goal for his country from the penalty spot in the 2-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Switzerland, found the time to offer some motivational words for his younger team-mates.

He gave an impromptu speech in the home dressing room at Wembley after the game on Tuesday night to commemorate the occasion

Rooney said: 'I'd like to thank every one of you, coaches, players, staff who I've worked with for such a long time.

'This is such a huge moment for myself and my family and my career. Hopefully for the team, for myself, there's a lot more to come — we can be successful.'

He added: 'Hopefully there's a lot of young lads coming through, Harry (Kane), Ross (Barkley), Raheem (Sterling), who can come close and even pass me in the future. I'm grateful, it means the world to me, and thank you very much.'

England manager Roy Hodgson, who urged Rooney to address his team-mates, revealed: 'I provoked him to give a speech, a very good speech but fairly short as it should be.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool boss went on: 'The one thing I can tell you about it was how proud he was to have achieved that, and how determined he is not to stop at 50. That was good.

'I'd like to think we're on 10 games a year these days, a bit more if we do quite well in a tournament. So if he plays to 2018 at least we're talking 20 or 30 games, so 10 to 15 goals with his rate of scoring.'

On Rooney's inspiring words, defender Luke Shaw commented: 'He thanked all the players and staff for everything they have done for him.

'He said with all the young players coming up like Harry, Ross and Raheem that maybe one day they will overtake him which is a nice thing for him to say.'

Rooney had been awarded a special England shirt with 'Rooney 50' on the back to honour his remarkable feat. And the FA are planning a night of Rooney celebrations for England's final home Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia on October 9.

Charlton, whose 45-year record was surpassed, will present Rooney with a golden boot, while supporters will be asked to send messages of congratulations on social media.

A special flag to mark Rooney's record goal-haul will also be on show for the match against Estonia

Huge honour to be record goal scorer @england. A night I'll never forget. Thanks every1 who has helped along the way

It's a fantastic acheivement from a great player. Not a World Class player though. I can't help but think with his early promise he should have gone on to deliver so much more. Only 1 goal in a World Cup? He's not in the class of Messi, Ronaldo, Aguero, Suarez etc. but still a great player and a tremendous acheivement.

50 goals. 45 penalties. Stevie G was a far better player. And won more European cups.

Wow..it took English players 45 yrs to break such a weak record?
