Shakhtar Donetsk 0-3 Paris Saint-Germain: Solid Parisian showing enough to see off sorry Shakhtar

Гол, забитый в первом тайме на Украине, выводит ПСЖ на верх, а хозяев вниз таблицы группы А Лиги Европы

Goals scored in the first half were enough to see les Parisiens through in Ukraine, with the hosts now bottom of Group A

Paris Saint-Germain earned a 3-0 win at Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday to preserve their perfect start to the Champions League.

Serge Aurier got himself on the end of Maxwell's cross in the seventh minute to put Laurent Blanc's side in the lead, before being key to his side's second goal, flicking on a corner for David Luiz to double their advantage.

PSG were almost made to pay for the wastefulness of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Angel Di Maria in the second half, with Alex Teixeira being denied by both Kevin Trapp and the woodwork.

But they could not find a way through PSG's back line and Ibrahimovic ensured the result by forcing Darijo Srna into scoring an own-goal as the match approached stoppage time.

The Ligue 1 champions maintain their unbeaten start to the season in all competitions and keep pace with Real Madrid at the top of Group A.

The visitors made an excellent start, Aurier capitalising on poor defending from Taison to head home at the back post from fellow full-back Maxwell's floated cross.

Aurier should have had an assist to his name 10 minutes later, whipping in a delightful delivery from the right, yet Ibrahimovic somehow headed wide of an open goal.

PSG had a second soon after, although it came in a fortunate manner, the ball looping in under the bar off the thigh of Luiz after more poor marking from Shakhtar.

Di Maria should have done better shortly before the half-hour mark when, having beaten the offside trap, his tame dink was parried wide by Shakhtar stopper Andriy Pyatov.

For all PSG's domination, Shakhtar almost pulled one back on the stroke of half-time, Oleksandr Gladkiy twice missing from close range following good play from Teixeira, before Marlos fired over.

Taison went close to atoning for his earlier lapse in concentration five minutes after the restart, the midfielder curling a drilled strike just wide of the right-hand upright.

Marco Verratti, typically impressive in midfield, looked destined to net his first goal of the campaign with a sumptuous half-volley, but the shot was well blocked by Olexandr Kucher.

Despite Di Maria's earlier chance, Shakhtar continued to employ a high defensive line, and the Argentina winger found himself through on goal once again on the hour mark, but his chip landed on the roof of the net.

Mircea Lucescu introduced Bernard in place of Taison, and the diminutive playmaker soon made an impact, finding Gladkiy with a wonderful cross, but the forward was unable to direct his header on target.

Trapp had to be alert to deny Teixeira, who was then unfortunate not to snatch a deserved goal with a superb effort from distance that clipped off the top of the bar.

But PSG's victory was finally rounded off in the final minute of normal time, Ibrahimovic ghosting in behind Shakhtar's defence before his shot was diverted into Shakhtar's net by Srna.

FULL TIME: SHAKHTAR 0-3 PSG. Les Parisiens keep pace atop Group A as tallies from Serge Aurier, David Luiz and an own goal for Dario Srna deal a massive blow to the Miners' qualification hopes. The scoreline is flattering to the visitors as Shakhtar created plenty of chances, but in the end it just didn't prove to be their night.

Well Ibrahimovic will try and claim it, but instead it goes down as an ow goal for Srna. If only for a moment he celebrated with his teammates as he thought he had pulled level with Pauleta for first on PSG's all-time scoring list.

THREE GOALS, THREE POINTS FOR BLANC'S MEN! Lucas starts the counter showing great strength to fend off a challenge, and then Pastore plays Ibra through and his shot takes a generous deflection off Srna to beat Pyatov.

The fourth official indicates there will be three minutes of time added on, which may not be enough for Shakhtar to turn this around - although any amount of time may not help them at this point anyhow.

ANOTHER NEAR MISS! The ensuing free kick is taken by Raktskiy, but Matuidi gets a good block in. Pressure stays on and Shevchuk's cross isn't dealt with, falling to Teixeira, but he lifts his shot over the bar from close range!

    Yellow CardDavid Luiz
Dentinho makes his presence felt straight away as he lures Luiz into a foul. It was an easy decision for the referee, but the centre-half still opts to try and plead his case which sees the referee take his name down.

Near replica from the corner! Aurier meets the delivery from Lucas with a flick on for Luiz, but this time Gladkiy is first to it as he's able to knock the ball behind. The ensuing delivery is dealt with and Shakhtar can get back in defence.

    SubstitutionÁngel Di María Javier Pastore
A rather sorry match for Di Maria comes to an end as he's replaced by Javier Pastore. Better nights ahead for him. PSG need the fresh legs as they're starting to be pinned back in defence.

OFF THE BAR! Confusion and chaos in the PSG defence as Maxwell doesn't claim a loose ball, allowing Gladkiy to pick it up and drift inside. He squares for Teixeira, but the Brazilian's first-time strike rattles off the frame of the goal! It's just not their night.

YOU FANCY HIM TO SCORE FROM THERE! Delightful build-up from the hosts as Teixeira is played through in the left channel, but the leading Shakhtar goalscorer is unable to beat Trapp from close range!

LOVELY PRESSURE! Wonderful spell in attack for the hosts as they begin to throw everyone forward. Gladkiy gets on the end of a cross and guides his header back into the danger area, but Luiz is able to clear. Possession remains with Shakhtar and Srna sends an inviting ball in, but Trapp does well to come out and claim it.

STAT ATTACK: Shakhtar have lost just one of their last 10 Champions League matches in Ukraine (W3, D6) and have never lost a European home match against clubs from France (W3, D2).
  • 73'

PSG have slowed the tempo to a near stand-still. They're doing an excellent job of seeing this lead out, but complacency could become an issue if they continue to pass it around at the halfway line without any real threat of getting forward.

Double change for Shakhtar, which sees the shifty Brazilian Bernard introduced along with teenager Viktor Kovalenko. Marlos and Taison are the ones to give way.

It's now or never for Shakhtar. Time is running out on their chances of progression from Group A and they seem to be falling further out of this match with each passing minute. They have looked more than capable at times but PSG have done ever so well to settle in and curb any hopes of a comeback.
  • 67'

Outstanding run yet again from Teixeira, but Silva does just enough to block his passage through on goal and Gladkiy is unable to arrive and follow up ahead of the no-nonsense clearance from Luiz.
  • 65'

    Yellow CardZlatan Ibrahimovic
Ugly challenge from Ibrahimovic as he gets his elbow up into the face of Kucher in an attempt to win the ball near the halfway line. He didn't appear to know much about it, but with his arms kept far out from his sides he didn't help matters much either. It's the first caution of the match handed out by the German referee.
  • 64'

STAT ATTACK: PSG have managed just one victory from their last six Champions League matches on their travels (D2, L3), a 1-0 win over APOEL in Cyprus courtesy of an 87th minute goal from Edinson Cavani.
  • 62'

Another shocking effort from the Argentine! Di Maria runs 50 yards up the pitch to get into a dangerous position in attack, and has options in the centre. He inexplicably tries to cross it in with the outside of his foot and lifts his delivery well beyond the other side of the penalty area.
  • 60'

That would have ended it! Great play from Ibrahimovic to win the ball from a goal kick and lay a pass off for Verratti. The Italian sends a delightful delivery over the top to send Di Maria clean through on goal, but his chipped effort rises five feet over the bar! Dreadful miss, that.
  • 58'

Clumsy from Luiz! Gladkiy gives the defender a handful as he takes a pass and sends a clever touch past the Brazilian. Luiz is all over him as he prevents the striker from running to the byline, but the referee doesn't see enough to award the penalty.
  • 56'

CRUCIAL BLOCK! Significant improvement from PSG as they enjoy their first prolonged spell in possession of this second half. It's worked around nicely in the final third, with a pass picking out Verratti atop the area, but his strike is deflected smartly over the bar by Rakytskiy.
  • 54'

STAT ATTACK: Shakhtar have won five consecutive matches against French opposition, keeping four clean sheets, with each of those coming in the UEFA Cup and Europa League.
  • 52'

Wasted opportunity! A sloppy start to the half from PSG has handed Shakhtar the initiative. Taison drives forward with the visitors backing off quickly out of respect for the pace he offers. The Brazilian doesn't pick out the best option, however, as he spots Marlos out wide, and then sends an effort wide of goal as he takes a return pass.
  • 50'

Width will be the key for PSG in this second half as we've come to realize after the opening 50 minutes. Their best moments in attack have come when the likes of Teixeira and Taison got into good wide positions, with Shevchuk and Srna providing support on the overlap.
  • 48'

Shakhtar have dug themselves into quite a hole, not just in this match but in the grander scheme of Group A as a whole. They generated some good momentum at the end of the first half, although the breakthrough eluded them, and need to carry that through here if they are to rescue a point.

HALF TIME: SHAKHTAR 0-2 PSG. Everything going according to plan for Laurent Blanc as his side carry a commanding lead with them into the break, despite the hosts enjoying a larger share of possession. Les Parisiens have made the most of their opportunities and goals from Serge Aurier and David Luiz have them tied with Real Madrid atop Group A as things stand.
  • 45'

Just one minute to be added on at the end of this first half.
  • 43'

STAT ATTACK: PSG are unbeaten in 17 matches across all competitions since a 2-0 defeat away to Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals (W15, D2).
  • 41'

SOMEHOW SHAKHTAR DON'T SCORE! It's a mad scramble in the area following an incredible passage of play stated by Teixeira. He skips past Aurier and Silva, but Trapp keeps his shot out from a tight angle. The rebound falls for Gladkiy in the centre, but he can't sort his footing as he stares down a gaping goal. PSG fail to clear and after Srna and Taison see their shots blocked, Kucher lifts the final effort over the bar with half an empty goal to shoot at!
  • 39'

CLOSE! Srna's corner isn't convincingly cleared by PSG as it falls for Rakytskiy atop the area. He unloads a half-volley, but can only watch on as his effort clatters onto the roof of the net.
  • 38'

ALMOST A BREAKTHROUGH FOR SHAKHTAR! Luiz apologises to his keeper after a disgraceful back-pass, played back without even looking and under no pressure at all. Trapp was well out of his goal and luckily for the centre-half, his pass rolls just wide of the post forcing Shakhtar to settle for a corner.
  • 36'

Srna was always favoured to take, despite two players standing over it, but his powerful, swerving effort drifts straight into the waiting arms of Trapp. Shakhtar can ill-afford to waste these chances.
  • 35'

Great distribution from Shakhtar as they hold the ball for an extended period. Matuidi is too aggressive in his pursuit of Malyshev and conceded a free kick for a foul from 25-yards out, almost dead centre.
  • 33'

Quick update from the other Group A match taking place in Sweden, where Cristiano Ronaldo has just given Real Madrid the lead over Malmo. If both results stand PSG would be tied with Los Blancos at six points after two matches, with Shakhtar left in a very difficult position to try and advance to the knockout stage.
  • 31'

STAT ATTACK: Shakhtar are have not lost their first home match of the group stage since a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in 2008. They are unbeaten in five since then (W2, D3).
  • 29'

SHOULD BE THREE! The simplest of build-ups from the visitors as Luiz floats a ball 50-yards up the pitch from the back and Shakhtar are caught napping as it sends Di Maria clean through on goal. Pyatov gets just enough of his chipped effort to direct it behind for a corner, but the Argentine really should be scoring from there.
  • 27'

DECENT EFFORT! In a desperate attempt to pull themselves back into this game, Shakhtar force bodies forward into attack. Marlos does well in possession to dribble past Motta and skip across the top of the area, but his left-footed strike rolls wide of the far post.
  • 25'

PSG have been limited in getting forward, but their few attacks have each produced clear scoring opportunities, two of which have resulted in goals. The timing couldn't be any better as it's helped curb any kind of ascendancy or confidence built up by the hosts during their prolonged spells in possession.

    GoalDavid Luiz
DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR LES PARISIENS! It comes with a hint of luck as Aurier flicks on Di Maria's corner and it hits off Luiz, who sends it looping into the back of the net. He had hardly any time to react and knew very little about it, but regardless Shakhtar now have a mountain to climb.
  • 21'

NEARLY A SECOND! Terrific from Aurier as he again finds space on the overlap before picking out a delightful cross for Ibrahimovic at the far stick, but his downwards header bounces just inches wide of the woodwork.
  • 19'

STAT ATTACK: PSG have lost just once previously against opponents from Ukraine (W7, D2), suffering a 3-0 defeat away to Dynamo Kyiv in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup.
  • 17'

OFFSIDE! Intricate passing from the hosts as they pick apart the open spaces in attack. They're really in control of this game, despite what the scoreline suggests, but their latest attack fizzles out as a ball over the top from Pyatov picks out Gladkiy in an offside position.
  • 15'

A bit of sloppy play from PSG in possession sees them struggle to advance the ball and promptly give it away as they cross the halfway line. Silva is swiftly penalised for a cynical foul on Gladkiy and he's lucky to escape without a booking having denied the striker what could have been a clear route through behind the defence.
  • 13'

Shakhtar aren't appearing at all discouraged despite conceding the early opener. They're keeping the ball very well and forcing PSG to drop deeper in defence as the hosts commit men forward. That's the type of team they are, not afraid to take chances and their goal-scoring record in the competition accurately reflects that.
  • 11'

Not too far off! Prominent build-up play from Shakhtar, who despite trailing have actually enjoyed the greater amount of possession through the opening 10 minutes. Srna gets forward and lays a clever pass off for Fred, but the Brazilian's strike deflects behind off a teammate for a goal kick.
  • 9'

STAT ATTACK: Playing their Champions League home matches in Lviv last season, Shakhtar picked up just four points from their three group stage games in Ukraine. It was the lowest point total they had managed at home in the group phase since 2011.

FROM ZERO TO HERO FOR PSG! Aurier atones for his earlier miscues at the back as he makes a perfectly-timed run into the area to get on the end of Maxwell's cross and head PSG in front with his first-ever Champions League goal!

Aurier finds himself under a wealth of early pressure and he's not dealt with it soundly up to this point. A careless clearance attempt sends the ball needlessly behind for a corner, but again he's let off the hook as his side defend soundly from the ensuing set piece.

Clumsy challenge from Serge Aurier who clips Taison after some trickery on the ball from the Brazilian. Oleksandr Kucher takes, but PSG promptly deal with the threat. Nonetheless, it's an encouraging start for the hosts.

The teams make their way out of the tunnel and - though it's not their usual home venue - the support is anything but lacking for the Ukrainian outfit. It's a large stadium and the fans have nearly filled it to capacity, which has made for a tremendous atmosphere ahead of this Group A encounter.

Laurent Blanc has made a wealth of changes to his side from their league victory on the weekend, with Marquinhos, Kurzawa, Stamboili, Lucas and Pastore all dropped to the bench. Serge Aurier is back after missing their Group A opener due to suspension, and replaces the injured Gregory van der Wiel at right-back.
  •

Only two changes made by Mircea Lucescu to his side following their opening match defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu. Taras Stepanenko is suspended for the Miners, paving the way for Maksym Malyshev to make his maiden Champions League start. Shakhtar are boosted by the return of Vyacheslav Shevchuk, however, replacing Marcio Azevedo at left-back, but he will have his hands full with Angel di Maria.

    CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS:
  •

PSG never looked threatened in their opening group match, cruising to a 2-0 victory over Malmo in which they led for 86 minutes. Their away form in the Champions League has been far less impressive and will require a big improvement should Les Parisiens hope to get over the hump and advance past the quarter-finals. A victory today, despite being so early in the campaign, would send them six points ahead of Shakhtar and leave them in a likely battle with Real Madrid for first place in the group in advance of their next group match against Los Blancos at the Parc des Princes in October.
  •

If Shakhtar are to have any chance of pulling an upset and advancing to the knockout stage, they will have to take maximum points from their three home fixtures – or at least close to it. The Donbass Arena is a fortress and teams from western Europe have historically struggled in Donetsk. That being said, they will not be playing their home games there, instead forced to relocate over 1,000 kilometres west to the Arena Lviv. They didn’t perform up to standard there a season ago, but got by on their away form – something which will prove much harder this time around with the step up in quality in Group A.
