One point is what Arsenal did grab from their home games this season, a record that can eliminate all of their title chances and easily get them out of the title race if not solved early on. The gunners scored nothing, failed to play their easy-flowing and entertaining football in both of their home games. So the question begs to be asked, what is behind this horrible form at home?
Wenger claimed it is nothing to worry about saying that by the time his players regain form, they going to get goals again and maintain a strong home run. Actually, this can happen as you cannot expect Arsenal to continue losing points at home, to win the league you need much more though, the Emirates stadium must turn to a fortress where they consistently grab the 3 points time and time again without so much suffering too.
When talking about goals, the first thing to pop straight away is the striker issue, but the team is scoring in away games and their recent record is quite impressive, so why things do not take the same path at home?
The gunners clearly do not stand in good stead when playing a team that is parking the bus- teams usually do that in the Emirates stadium. The manager always insists on playing the same style of football; keep the ball, create an opening from the middle then after a chance or two, the ball is at the back of the net, but that do not always work when you are facing two defending lines. Looking back to the Sunderland, Swansea and Monaco games from last season when the team also could not carry a tune, obviously it looks more than such a coincidence.
A hugely noticed improvement in big games also achieving a superb away record, thanks to the balance Coqulien and Cazorla created in midfield, putting Ramsey at the wing paid off most of the time as well, the times it did not were at home where 2 fast, wide men are a demand to rattle the locks of a crowded defense and pave the way for Mesut Ozil to show his extraordinary ability of finding killer passes.
Widen the game is the simplest way to open up spaces in a narrow and lumpy defense, sticking to possession and short passes only will not help much, the threat and space another fast winger can add certainly will. The options are there for the manager to use, Oxlade-Chambelain seems in a great form also Theo Walcott who I think is much better wide player than a main striker; the way he cuts behind the backline can always be the answer.
Dropping either Ramsey or Cazorla is a very tough decision to take though, the two of them seem crucial and irreplaceable for the team, but I think it is a decision the manager has to make especially in home games as having 2 fast wide men as well as the great use of their full backs, I think the gunners will have too much for any defense to handle.
The first step in the extremely tiring journey to the title is always maintaining an outstanding home run, to keep their chances on the gunners have to adjust 1 or 2 things and fortunately they seem to have the solutions.
