Russian international winger Denis Cheryshev has again failed to make Rafa Benitez’s squad, remaining in Madrid as the team travels to take on Espanyol in Cornella on Saturday evening.
Cheryshev was one of the most coveted transfer targets of the summer, but the club refused to sell the youth product, despite rumours of a €30 million bid from Liverpool as they felt he would play a role with the club this season.
However, when manager Rafa Benitez named his squad for their Week 3 match against Espanyol, Cheryshev was once again left off the 20-man list as the Spanish coach refuses to make the 24-year-old a part of the squad.
Saturday’s match was the perfect opportunity for Cheryshev to be named to the squad with the absences of Danilo and James Rodriguez, but was left out of the squad for technical reasons.
Cheryshev’s time with Real Madrid looks even shorter than it did this past summer, when Rafa Benitez reportedly made a massive effort and rejected lucrative bids to retain the player’s services, but now seems to have over-judged the player’s importance to the squad.
